On August 27th 2001, my life changed forever: I took my first road trip as an adult – and, I was hooked. Sure, I had taken a trip or two with the entire fam in our tiny Volkswagen Beetle, but that was different (and not just in a cramped way).
This time around, I had the good fortune of traveling with a veteran road tripper who prepared everything, from music to games and snacks, so we wouldn’t be bored or uncomfortable for even one second during our journey. And that’s when I realized that life is all about the journey, and it helps to be prepared for anything.
Since 2001, I’ve taken about 15 road trips, and each of them hold a special place in my heart. For the most part, unless I’m traveling with my first road trip companion, I plan every single detail myself – because I want everything to be perfect.
As you can tell, I take road tripping very seriously. That might be because I take fun pretty seriously, too!
Whether you’re here to get some tips for your first road trip or to share stories of your last one, I’m glad you came along for the ride.
Now, it’s time to get a move on. Call your mama, if you must, and tell her we’re hittin’ the road.
Happy travels!
